Like many things, tranquillity and turbulence are symbiotic – without one there would be no reference counterpoint for the other.
Matt and I set off from the pub late after nightmare train connections had me arriving 4 beers later than he had. Close to 2am we climbed up to the cave, cooked, ate and got our heads down. Waking up in a chilly cave near Hathersage shouldn’t have felt so seraphic and the fact it did is testimony to how overextended everyday life can be. The past few weeks (and months) have been a bit of a bifurcated haze – being one part sociable, psychologically dependent alcoholic and one part stressed out, over-worked recluse. It was getting old. Regressing back to a troglodyte for the night was the fresh perspective I needed on things and inspired a return to work with the intention of giving even less of a fuck than I did before. Sweet.
If, by any chance, you’ve no access to a cave to come round to your own profound revelation – these songs might help.
Or you could wank to them. Whatever.
